Fun with Acrylic Painting

Guangmin SHi

I guess that it is not accidental that I picked up brushes out of blue on August 18, 2015, and since then painting has become my new found passion. It is the voice from above telling me that I need to think differently, see the world differently, from the way that I was used to, which is very linear and logical. Painting is a training for me in order to experience the magical side of the world. Also painting is a tool to express my inner feelings which I cannot describe in words. I do not have a goal, nor a desire to become an artist, I do believe that shapes and colors have energy, so do the copper geometric models I made (not shown here). Just as the subtle energy from crystals and rocks, those from paintings and copper geometric models have subtle influence on us, too. My best wish is for myself to become a better person through painting and other related work, and with the ultimate intention that my work will do no harm, but for the best of all human beings, animals, plants, rocks, crystals, etc. And I have great joy when painting. My very first two paintings Painted after the agate slab and the malachite egg. Jazz It Up! Many years ago when I was at my low in my life, well, sort of, there was a guitarist who played and sang in the subway station where I got on and off every day. Occasionally I would put one dollar in his hat on the ground but never really thought much more, always minding my own misery until one day, as usual, I stepped in to the station, walking towards the platform, he called me from behind, I stopped and turned to him, he said, "This is for you!" Then he started to sing "Lean On Me" Sometimes in our lives We all have pain, we all have sorrow But if we are wise We know that there's always tomorrow Lean on me when you're not strong And I'll be your friend, I'll help you carry on For it won't be long 'Til I'm gonna need somebody to lean on ...... I walked over and gave him a big hug. Tears in my eyes...... That day, I learned a lesson. Flamingo! Painted after the two ceramic cats my dear friend Nachama made and gave to me. Inspired by many photographers' magnificent photographs of this mystical site, especially Ruth Archer's. Thank you, Ruth! I had the urge to paint the Stonehenge and just couldn't get rid of the thought, so finally I decided to have a try. For this one the orientation and direction matter so I did some research on it and eventually I thought that I had a pretty good idea of how the stones sit, and thus I knew that I could more or less get the light and shadow right. Though I did not have the skill to paint something like this but that didn't deter me. I believe that if you think you are a rock then you can paint a rock. And this was exactly what happened. I hope that one day I could visit this site in person. Margot's Waterfall --- living on. Inspired by Margot's beautiful photograph shared by Robyn Lovelock at pmp-art.com. Thank you, Margot and Ro!
